Aicha is a village in the municipality of Niederwinkling . After Niederwinkling, Waltendorf and Welchenberg , Aicha is the fourth largest district in the municipality.

geography

Aicha lies in the glacial valley of the Danube at an average of around 314 m above sea level. NN. The place is about 2 to 3 meters above the normal level of the Danube (at the level of Pfelling). Like the other places in the diked 'Polder Sulzbach' there is a risk for Aicha of being inundated in the event of extraordinary flood events , such as the Danube flood in 2013 .

Due to its location in the former alluvial land of the Danube, the landscape around Aicha is flat and crossed by numerous drainage ditches. The largest of these is the Lohgraben, which carries water all year round and is dammed into a small lake in the center of the village. In addition, gravel was mined here and in the surrounding area in the past. This can still be seen on several smaller gravel ponds, which are mostly used for recreational fishing today.

history

The place name Aicha probably goes back to an oak forest or grove at the point of the town center.

nature

The local area is largely determined by agricultural land. In the area of the Lohgraben these are mainly meadows. Agriculture dominates the drained, higher-lying areas. The fertile, albeit loamy, heavy aubode of the "Heiwisch" is mainly used for growing grain, rape and root crops. The cultivation of maize is of particular importance, which in some years means that the approach to the site resembles a tunnel ( maize formation ).

In the east the village borders on a larger forest area, the so-called "Brackerloher Holz". However, there are no more remains of the natural alluvial forest in Aicha.

traffic

The place can be reached by three communal roads from the direction of Waltendorf, Welchenberg and Kohlstatt. The unpaved direct route to Loham is also an important link for the local residents.

At the junction to the SR 34 district road to Loham / Waltendorf, there is a connection to public transport to Straubing and Bogen.

In some winters the Lohgraben freezes completely and forms a supporting layer of ice. Some local residents use this to quickly get to the nearby shops in the neighboring village of Loham by ice skating.

economy and society

Apart from a few small farms, Aicha no longer has any economic structure of its own. Up until the 1970s, a grocery store and a restaurant with an ice pond were located on site. However, in the course of rationalization in retail and gastronomy, these businesses were no longer competitive. The small town gained local fame as a repeated location for the Bavarian comedy group Woidboyz .
