Aino Tigane

Aino Tigane (born April 29 . Jul / 12. May  1912 greg. In Tartu ; † 12. October 1991 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian children's book author .

Life

Aino Tigane was born as a craftsman's daughter in Tartu and went to school there. After graduating from high school (1930), she worked as a proofreader at Loodus until 1941. From 1941 to 1946 she was a dancer and actress at the Vanemuine Theater . Then she was from 1947 to 1948 at the Tallinn Noorsoo Theater. Since 1948 she lived as a freelance writer in Tallinn.

Tigane was a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 1948 and is buried in the Tallinn Forest Cemetery. The writer Leida Tigane was her older sister. She was married to the Estonian children's author Elar Kuus .

Literary work

Aino Tigane published short stories and feature sections in newspapers and magazines from the 1930s. Her book debut took place in 1941 when her book Külaline metsast ('The visitor from the forest'), which won third prize in the children's book competition , was published. After the war, she published other children's books in quick succession. Her works are characterized by an optimistic tone.

Her popular books have also appeared in Russian and Latvian , and individual stories in Ukrainian and Georgian .
