Heinrich Carl Küster

Heinrich Carl Küster (born February 14, 1807 in Erlangen , † April 1876 in Bamberg ) was a German entomologist , ornithologist and malacologist .

Küster, whose father Friedrich Karl Küster was a drawing teacher and inspector of the natural history cabinet of the University of Erlangen , studied in Erlangen from 1826 to 1830 , where he also received his doctorate in 1839 (Dr. phil.). From 1836 he was a teacher of natural sciences at the trade school in Erlangen. In 1834 he traveled to Sardinia and in 1840/41 to Dalmatia and Montenegro . Later he was the royal telegraph administrator and director of the Bamberg telegraph station .

He was known for publications on zoology ( insects , mollusks , birds ), which he also illustrated himself.

He also continued the Systematic Conchylia Cabinet by Friedrich Heinrich Wilhelm Martini (1729–1778) and Johann Hieronymus Chemnitz (1730–1800) (published 1837–1920).

His nephew Emil Küster (1838–1921) was also a malacologist.
