The Tallinn Forest Cemetery ( Estonian Tallinna Metsakalmistu ) is the celebrity cemetery of the Republic of Estonia .

Tallinn Forest Cemetery was established in the Kloostrimetsa district in 1933 . It was officially inaugurated in 1939. At that time it covered an area of 24.2 hectares and has since been increased to 48.4 hectares.

In the forest cemetery, the calm and unshaped naturalness of the landscape and the forest dominate. The graves themselves should fit into nature through modesty. There are therefore no great grave monuments. The height of the tombstones is limited to 1.5 m.

In 1936 a small chapel was built on the site , which was renovated in 1996.

The Metsakalmistu has been a burial place for the important figures of Estonia since its foundation. In 1933 the writer Eduard Vilde was the first to be buried there.
