Akakios von Melitene , also Acacius von Melitene († between 438 and 449) was bishop of Melitene from about 430 on . Before that, he initially served as a lecturer under his predecessor Ostrios, who then ordained him as a deacon and priest .

Akakios took part in the Council of Ephesus in 431 . He gave a homily at the council . He fought very firmly against Nestorianism and warned the Armenian bishops against the writings of the Nestorian Theodore of Mopsuestia . He had a correspondence with Cyril of Alexandria , and Kyrill addressed him with apologetic letters. Despite some disputes, he took Cyril's side in the Christological controversies of his time. For a while he was Monophysite , but came back from it.

Akakios is venerated as a saint in Orthodox churches . His feast day is April 17th.
