Akams
Akams is a district in Immenstadt im Allgäu in the Oberallgäu district .
Earlier names were: Macabus, Mokams, Okams, Okambs, Ackams.

Former affiliations: Unterlohe is a wasteland of the hamlet of Freibrechts. The Haslachmühle and Hochschwand belong to Luitharz. The Lauberfeld belongs to Akams. Adelharz includes the wastes Mistbichl and Aubichl.
history
In 1291 Ulrich and Marquard von Schellenberg transferred their possessions in Akams to the Augsburg bishopric . It is assumed that Akams was originally an imperial property. It is documented that in 1424 several farms became fiefs from the Augsburg bishopric . Adelharz (Adilhars) belonged to the alpine estates of the Weingarten monastery in the 13th century .
Until 1806 Akams was a parish village in the county of Königsegg-Rothenfels . After joining Bavaria, Akams belonged to the Immenstadt district court , from 1862 to the district office and from 1939 to the district of Sonthofen .
The formerly independent municipality was incorporated into Immenstadt on January 1, 1972 as part of the municipal reform . The community lies at an altitude of 854 m, between Missen and Niedersonthofen , on the south side of the Hauchenberg.
Social care
In the Bergstätt communities of Akams, Diepolz and Eckarts and in communities without a poor house, single, mentally or physically handicapped people were accommodated and cared for for two to three days by each farm owner depending on the size of the property and the tax amount. Through this covering , the survival of a marginal group was ensured.
Akams Parish
- Akams - Parish Church of St. Otmar : Late Gothic building from the 15th century, rebuilt around 1782, fundamentally restored in 1890/94, removing almost all of the interior fittings. The tower originally standing in the west (built of wood except for the foundation walls) was replaced in 1898 by a stone tower on the south side of the choir . The ceiling painting by Xaver Mayr, which shows the village in the middle of the 19th century, should also be mentioned. Akams is looked after by the parish of Stein .
- Adelharz - Marienkapelle : The church was built in 1733.
- Luitharz Chapel : The 18th century chapel ( Pest chapel?) Was demolished before 1939 and rebuilt in 1960 on the same site. It houses the figures of the two plague saints Sebastian and Rochus .
