Watanabe Akane gained her first international experience at the 2015 Asian Championships in Wuhan , where she won the bronze medal with 59.39 m. Two years later she was fourth at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar with 59.39 m, as well as at the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta with 62.45 m. At the Asian Championships in Doha , she won the bronze medal behind the two Chinese Wang Zheng and Luo Na with a width of 63.54 m .
In 2019 Watanabe became the Japanese hammer throw champion. She is a graduate of Kyushu Kyoritsu University in Fukuoka . In 2014 she received the Kitakyushu Citizen Award.
