The Akela Col is a shallow rising 400 and no 500 m high pass in the northwest of the West Antarctic James Ross Island . It is 4 km south of Rink Point between Virgin Hill and Kipling Mesa . It is the only connection between Whiskey Bay and an unnamed bay east of Lagrelius Point .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the passport in 2006 after the wolf Akela from The Jungle Book after Rudyard Kipling from 1894.
