The Akher Tsagh (also Akher Chioh , alternative spellings: Akher Chagh, Akher Chaq ) is a 7017 meter high mountain in the Hindu Kush and is situated in Chitral , the northernmost district of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in northwest Pakistan , a few kilometers south of the border to the Afghan Wakhan -Corridor .

location

Akher Tsagh is the highest mountain in a mountain group that branches off from the main Hindu Kush ridge (over which the Afghan-Pakistani border runs) to the east-southeast. The Kohe Tez (also Koh-i-Tez, 6995 m), a little more than two kilometers away , belongs to the main ridge, to the east follow Akher Tsagh, Kotgaz Zom (about 6680 m), Noghor Zom (about 5930 m) and Chikar Zom (about 5285 m). The five-thousand-meter Kuchar connects to the south ridge of Kotgaz Zom. The Kotgaz Glacier has its nutrient area on the main Hindu Kush ridge on the north side of Akher Tsagh, it flows in the north along the mountain range to the east. From the south side of Akher Tsagh, the Shogordok Glacier (along the west side of the Kuchar) flows south to the Hoski-o-Shayoz Glacier , which flows east from the main Hindu Kush ridge. The Chikar Glacier flows from the southeast side of Kotgaz Zom (between Noghor Zom and Chikar Zom in the north and Kuchar in the south) to the southeast. The outflows from these glaciers eventually flow into the Chitral .

Ascent history

The Austrians Hanns Schell and Rainer Göschl succeeded in climbing the mountain for the first time on August 10, 1966. From their base camp on the Kotgaz glacier on the north side of the mountain group, the two had already climbed Kotgaz Zom, the eastern neighbor of Akher Tsagh, on August 3 and exceeded. They reached the summit pyramid of Akher Tsagh to about 300 meters below the summit, but descended to the base camp to avoid a night bivouac. From there, Schell and his wife Lieselotte climbed the Chikar Zom on August 6th, before Schell and Göschl advanced to their intermediate camp at Kotgaz Zom on August 7th and reached the summit of Akher Tsagh on August 10th.
