Akrefnio ( Greek Ακραίφνιο ( n. Sg. )) Is a village in the municipality of the same name in the municipality of Orchomenos in the Central Greece region . Between 1997 and 2011 the place was the administrative seat of the municipality of the same name. To the south of the village lie the ruins of the eponymous ancient city of Akraiphia .

location

Akrefnio forms the largest local community with an area of ​​64.004 km². It is located in the south of the municipality of the same name on the border with the neighboring municipality of Thiva . Immediately south of the modern village are the remains of the ancient city of Akraiphia on the Skopia hill.

The local community Akrefnio emerged from the rural community Karditsa founded in 1912. This was given its current name in 1933. With the territorial reform in 1997 , the rural municipality of Akrefnio was merged with Kastro and Kokkino to form the municipality of Akrefnio , with its administrative headquarters in Akrefnio. Since the administrative reform in 2010 Akrefnio has the status of a local community in the municipality of Orchomenos.
