Akrefnio ( Greek Ακραίφνιο ( n. Sg. )) Has been a municipality of the municipality of Orchomenos in the Central Greece region since 2011 . It is named after the ancient city of Akraiphia in the west of the Ptoo mountain range.

location

The municipality of Akrefnio is located in the east of Central Greece and extends from the Gulf of Evia to more than 20 km into the hinterland. In the south, the communities Chalkida , Thiva and Aliartos-Thespies border. Orchomenos is to the west and Lokri is to the north.

structure

Through the merger of three rural communities that had existed since 1912, what was then Akrefnio was formed as part of the 1997 regional reform . This was merged with Orchomenos after the administrative reform in 2010 and has since formed a municipality there. This is divided into three local communities, which correspond to the former three rural communities Akrefnio, Kastro and Kokkino.
