akzenta (Akzenta GmbH & Co. KG) is the name of a regional supermarket chain based in Wuppertal . The company was founded in Greven near Münster in 1972 and currently has four akzenta supermarkets in Wuppertal and the boni center in Witten . akzenta has the largest selection of groceries in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

In June 1972 the first akzenta self-service market was opened in Greven near Münster. Since then, the company has been part of the supraregional REWE Group . In October 1973, a food market followed in the Haspe district of Hagen . The first food market in Wuppertal was opened in 1976 in the Cronenberg district . However, it was not successful until September 1976, when the company operating in Wuppertal under the name akzenta Hans Löbbert GmbH & Co. KG opened a large market with a drinks hall in Wuppertal- Barmen . Three more large markets in the city followed: In September 1986 the company moved into a retail space in Wuppertal's Karlstraße on Karlsplatz in the north of the city , and in October 2001 the market moved into the significantly enlarged area of ​​the new City-Arkaden . In July 1994, a small Desuma store (belonging to the REWE Group) on Steinbecker Meile was taken over and expanded. The fourth akzenta store opened in Wuppertal-Vohwinkel in 2002 . Subject to approval by the Federal Cartel Office , the ownership structure at akzenta changed at the beginning of 2013 ; The Löbbert and Krüger families, who had held shares of 26% in the stores for 35 and nine years respectively, sold these to the REWE Group retrospectively on January 1, 2013. With around 60,000 items, the product range at akzenta contains the largest selection of foods in North Rhine-Westphalia . Around 600 different types of cheese and around 500 types of sausage and ham as well as around 350 meat and 40 poultry items are offered at the service counters. Akzenta also offers around 100 products with the TransFair seal and around 75 organic products , as well as around 1,200 wines and up to 1,300 spirits . The range also includes up to 110 types of fruit and 150 vegetables, depending on the season. The variety of products varies depending on the location of the market. With around 12,000 products , akzenta Barmen offers the largest variety of drugstore items, while akzenta Steinbeck has over 1,250 spirits in its range. Akzenta Elberfeld offers the largest range of drinks with 1000 items. The stores also carry around 1,000 frozen products.
