al Kuwait SC ( Arabic نادي الكويت الرياضي, DMG Nādī al-Kuwait ar-Riyāḍī ) is a sports club from Kuwait City in Kuwait . The soccer section is the most famous of the club. She plays in the Kuwaiti Premier League , the highest league in the country. The footballers play their home games in the Kuwait Sports Club stadium.
Club history
Founded in 1960, the club is one of the most successful in the country with 15 championship titles. From 2006 to 2008 and from 2017 to 2019, the footballers won the championship title three times in a row. In 2008 the club took part in the AFC Champions League , but did not get beyond the group stage. Since a change in the AFC's qualifying rules , the club only competes in the AFC Cup as champions of the country . After a 2-1 win over al-Karama from Syria, the team won the 2009 AFC Cup . In 2012 this success was repeated after a 4-0 victory over Erbil .
Both Rainer Bonhof and Theo Bücker were already coaches for the football team.
