Al Lowe (born July 24, 1946 ) is an American game developer .

Life

Al Lowe has been playing the saxophone since he was 13. He was a music teacher at Clovis High School before moving into school administration and "falling in love with computers," as he says himself. In 1982 he came to Sierra On-Line and was involved in many successful computer games . He left the company in 1998.

His best-known series is Leisure Suit Larry , which caused a tangible scandal in the American computer games market in the 1980s when retailers refused to include Larry in their product range. Today Leisure Suit Larry is a piece of computer game history. Al Lowe's best-known motto "Save early, save often" is also passed down from this time - an allusion to the level of difficulty of the Larry series, in which the character could quickly die.

Lowe was also involved in the development of several Walt Disney-themed games. Donald Duck's Playground was particularly praised as an educational game by the trade press. Even Freddy Pharkas , The Black Cauldron and Torin's Passage penned Al Lowes. He was also a programmer for Police Quest and King's Quest . The theme tune for Space Quest was also composed by Al Lowe.

Lowe has lived in Seattle with his family since 1994 . As an amateur, he plays in local jazz bands and runs his humor website. For 2007 iBase-Entertainment announced the computer game Sam Suede in Undercover Exposure , which should be developed under Lowe's direction. December 2006 iBase Entertainment closed its doors and the development to Sam Suede was stopped. Al Lowe then announced that he wanted to say goodbye to the game business forever. In October 2011, however, it was announced that Replay Games had acquired the rights to Leisure Suit Larry and wanted to bring this game series back to life with the help of Al Lowe. A Kickstarter campaign was launched on April 2, 2012 to fund a remake of Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards . The game was released in the summer of 2013 under the title Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded and Al Lowe ended the collaboration with Replay Games afterwards.
