Al Ybarra

Alfred Ybarra (born December 11, 1906 in Mexico , † May 18, 1986 in Burbank , California , United States ) was a Mexican-born painter , architect and film architect with a career in Hollywood of 32 years .

Live and act

Alfred Ybarra began his professional career as a draftsman in an architectural office and worked in this role in Mexico City and several American cities. His paintings were u. a. bought by the then President of Mexico. In New York City he was involved in the construction of the Empire State Building .

He began as a draftsman in Hollywood (most recently in 1943 for When you said goodbye ) before he was appointed chief architect in 1943. In 1947 he was promoted to the A-League of American production designers with his designs for John Ford's command of conscience . He then worked for John Wayne's Batjac production company for twelve years . His best-known works include not only Wayne classics such as the airplane drama It's Always Day and the Perseverance Western Alamo , but also works by other well-known directors such as the revolutionary western Vera Cruz (by Robert Aldrich ) and Sierra Charriba (by Sam Peckinpah ), who also play in Mexico ). But Ybarra also designed buildings to completely different film genres such as to the Jules Verne film version Five Weeks in a Balloon , and that in the Maya gambling -Culture Drama Kings of the Sun .

With the end of the 1960s, Ybarra ended his career and withdrew to his retirement.
