Alain de Botton (born December 20, 1969 in Zurich , Switzerland ) is a British- Swiss writer and television producer .

biography

Alain de Botton is the son of the banker Gilbert de Botton (1935–2000) and his first wife Jacqueline Burgauer. The marriage also has a daughter.

De Botton spent the first twelve years of his life in Switzerland, where his father worked for the Rothschild Bank . To 1990 he studied from 1988 History and Philosophy at Gonville and Caius College of the University of Cambridge and graduated in 1992 at King's College London with the degree of Master from in philosophy.

De Botton is the owner of the production company Seneca Productions , which produces documentaries based mainly on his own texts.

De Botton currently lives in London with his wife, whom he married in 2003, and their two sons, born in 2004 and 2006.

In his essays and novels - written in English - Alain de Botton tries to transfer philosophical ideas for the reader to problems of the present and thereby make them understandable and topical.
