The Painted Ladies in Alamo Square

The historic Alamo Square is a park and district of San Francisco in the US state of California . It was laid out by Mayor James Van Ness in 1856/1857. The park is four blocks on a hill. It is bordered by Hayes Street in the south, Fulton Street in the north, Scott Street in the west and Steiner Street in the east.

A series of Victorian houses called Postcard Row is one of the most photographed residential streets in America. Some of the houses are painted brightly, which is why they are also called painted ladies . The magnificent row of houses on Steiner Street in particular is the best-known example of the Queen Anne Style , which was developed around 1890.
