Alan Beyerchen

Alan Duane Beyerchen (born May 14, 1945 in Mount Clemens , Michigan ) is an American historian .

Life

Beyerchen studied at the University of California, Santa Barbara (BA in German 1967 and MA in History 1968). From 1965 to 1966 he studied at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1973 he earned a Ph.D. From 1974 to 1976 he served in the US Army . He was then an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Ohio State University . He taught modern German history , researched cultural relationships and published a. a. to the military theorist Carl von Clausewitz .

He was u. a. Awarded by the American Philosophical Society , the DAAD and the Holocaust Educational Foundation . He has received grants from the National Humanities Center , the Guggenheim Foundation, and the National Science Foundation .

He has been a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science since 1992 and a member of the History of Science Society , the American Historical Association , the Conference Group on Central European History, and the Conference Group on German Politics .
