All together with Pamela M. Kilmartin

Alan C. Gilmore is a New Zealand astronomer .

Gilmore is a physics and astronomy graduate at the Mt John University Observatory , operated by the University of Canterbury , near Lake Tekapo . Together with his wife Pamela Margaret Kilmartin , he has discovered 40 asteroids so far . Both are also dedicated to the discovery and research of comets . On August 22, 2007, Gilmore discovered a previously unknown object that he initially believed to be an asteroid, but then turned out to be a periodic comet. The property now bears the provisional designation P / 2007 Q2 (Gilmore).

Alan Gilmore is also a member of the IAU's committee , which is responsible for sharing and distributing the names and appreciation of newly discovered objects. The asteroid (2537) Gilmore is dedicated to him.
