Alan Longmuir

Alan George Longmuir (born June 20, 1948 in Edinburgh , Scotland - † July 2, 2018 in Larbert , Scotland) was a British musician who became known as a member of the Bay City Rollers . He played electric bass , guitar and keyboard .

Life

Longmuir was the son of an undertaker and had two older sisters, Betty and Alice, and a younger brother Derek . The children grew up in a very musical house. Together with his brother Derek as a drummer and his cousin Neil Porteous he founded a band called Potias in 1966. At first he worked on the side as a plumber. When Gordon "Nobby" Clark joined the vocalist, Longmuir concentrated entirely on the work of the band, which was now called The Saxons and eventually the Bay City Rollers. Longmuir had a brief acting career in 1981 in the German feature film Burning Rubber .

In June 2018 he fell ill with a viral infection while on vacation with his wife in Mexico and was initially treated in a Cancun hospital. From there he was transferred to his Scottish homeland to the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert at the end of June , where he died on July 2, 2018.
