Larbert is a town in the Scottish council area of Falkirk . It is located in the traditional county of Stirlingshire about four kilometers northwest of the city center of Falkirk and about ten kilometers southeast of Stirling in the Central Belt north of the River Carron . In 2011 Larbert had 9143 inhabitants.

history

Larbert is 1.5 km north of the Antonine Wall . To the south of today's Larbert, a Roman road crossed the Carron, which is why the elevated area of ​​Larbert was of strategic importance for the Romans to monitor the transition. Larbert grew in the 19th century with the advent of the steel industry.

Attractions

The Old Cemetery was added to the Scottish Category A Monuments Lists in 1977. The former Royal Scottish National Hospital was classified as a monument of the highest category A. However, it was canceled in 2014.

The A9 , the most important trunk road in the Scottish Highlands , runs through Larbert on its way from Falkirk to Thurso . The M9 , M80 and M876 motorways run just a few kilometers north and northwest. Larbert has had its own train station since 1848, served by First ScotRail on the Edinburgh to Dunblane Line and the Croy Line . The connection of Larbert to the railway network was of great importance for the industrial development of the city.
