Alan Oversby

Alan Oversby (born February 20, 1933 in Liverpool , † May 8, 1996 in London ) was one of the main characters in the development of contemporary piercing in Europe . He was also known by his stage name Mr. Sebastian as the Father of British Body Piercing and Piercing Guru .

Career

After studying and working as an art teacher, Alan Oversby left his original profession to open a tattoo and piercing studio. From his studio in London , he promoted both tattooing and piercing especially within the gay and leather community . He was a close friend of both Doug Malloy and Jim Ward . Malloy invited him to Los Angeles and visited him, along with Ward and "Sailor" Sid Diller, in London. These encounters were instrumental in the global spread of the techniques and technologies used in contemporary piercing.

Oversby performed much of the tattoos and piercings on Psychic TV musicians Genesis P-Orridge and Paula P-Orridge.
