Elayne Angel
Elayne Angel (* 6. August 1960 as Elayne Steinberg ) is a professional American piercer and body modification enthusiast . She is known in the scene for her large tattoo of angel wings on her back, the whole lower body is tattooed with fish scales and fins. With the angel wing back tattoo , she became the first person to register a tattoo with the United States Patent Office .
Life
Elayne Angel studied sign language interpreting at Pierce College and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles . She took an early interest in piercings and after a chance encounter in 1981 with a woman wearing a nipple piercing , she decided to become a professional piercer. She joined The Gauntlet in 1981 and has been employed in the Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco branches . On December 1, 1991, she received a master's certificate as a piercer from Jim Ward . Her customers include a. the musician Lenny Kravitz .
In December 1993, she opened her own studio, Rings of Desire, in New Orleans , Louisiana . Rings of Desire was the first piercing studio to receive state licensing from the Louisiana Health Department.
After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she closed her studio in New Orleans and moved to Mérida , Mexico . In March 2009 she published the so-called "Piercing Bible": The Definitive Guide to Safe Body Piercing .
Elayne Angel was married three times, first to the director Ernest Greene (February 14, 1987 to December 19, 1988), from 1991 to 1996 with the English tattoo artist Alex Binnie and from 2003 to 2014 with Buck Angel.
Since 2010 Elayne Angel has been giving regular lectures in Germany; including at the annual BMXnet Conference in Essen. Her topics in 2019 were “Genital piercings for women”, “Genital piercings for men” and “Workshop marking techniques”.
