Alarum is an Australian metal band from Melbourne , Victoria that was formed in 1992. Their music is difficult to classify into a single genre and can best be described as a mix of technical death metal , progressive metal , thrash metal and jazz fusion .

history

The band was formed in 1992 by drummer Matthew Racovalis and guitarist Mark Evans. They held some performances in Australia and published the demo Another World in 1994. The following year, the compilation appeared Death Down Under by DEF Records , on which the band was also represented with a song. Later that year guitarist Scott Young and bassist Mark Palfreyman joined the band.

Together they wrote new material and released the album Fluid Motion in 1997 . The release was followed by several appearances in Australia. A music video for the song Realization was also produced. The band also performed at various festivals such as Metal for the Brain or Overcranked . In the following years, the band worked on new pieces and released several demos. In 2004 the second album Eventuality was released by Willowtip Records and in 2005 by Earache Records in Europe .

In 2006 Alarum went on tour through the USA with Necrophagist . She has also performed at The New England Hardcore & Metal Festival , California Metalfest and Maryland Deathfest . On this tour, Kelly Shaefer of Atheist in Florida performed with the band and played with them the song Piece of Time by Atheist.

style

The band is compared to other bands like Atheist, Cynic and Watchtower . The playing style is kept very complex, with melodic passages being interspersed. The singing is very varied and ranges from guttural singing to clean vocal passages.

Awards

In 2005, the band won the Kerrang Australian Heavy Metal Awards in the categories of Best Australian Album , Best Australian Bassist and Best Australian Drummer .
