The Alaska Route 2 is a state highway in Alaska . It runs from Manley Hot Springs in the Interior east to the border between Alaska and the Canadian Yukon Territory .

In the west, the route begins at the end of a dead end near the Tanana River at Manley Hot Springs. This point is also the beginning of the Elliott Highway , which the road follows past the junction with the Dalton Highway at Livengood to its end at Fox at the junction with the Steese Highway . On this it then runs south to Fairbanks . The Steese Highway merges into the Richardson Highway , which the Alaska Route 2 follows to Delta Junction , where it merges into the Alaska Highway , which has its northwestern end there. In the further course along the Alaska Highway, the route passes the intersections with the Tok Cut-Off in Tok and with the Taylor Highway at Tetlin Junction a few kilometers later and finally merges into Yukon Highway 1 at the border with Canada .

An extension of the route to Nome has been discussed since 2009. The extension is expected to be approximately 800 km long and cost 2-3 billion dollars.
