Tok cut-off
The Tok Cut-Off is a highway in the US state of Alaska , which over a distance of 201 km (125 mi) from the Gakona Junction, 23 kilometers (14 mi) from Glenallen on Richardson Highway lying to Tok on Alaska Highway leads .
The road was built in the 1940s and 1950s to more directly connect Tok to the Richardson Highway. It was called cut-off ( English for " abbreviation ") because it reduced the distance between Alaska Highway and Valdez or Anchorage compared to the detour via Delta Junction and the Richardson Highway by 193 km (120 mi).
The road is sometimes referred to as part of the Glenn Highway .
2002 earthquake
The earthquake that shook the region in 2002 caused major damage to the cut-off, especially between milestones 75 and 83, where the road was destroyed to its foundations.
