The Albatros (DVL) H.1 was a single-seat, single-engine high-altitude test aircraft made by Albatros Flugzeugwerke GmbH Berlin-Johannisthal from 1926, based on the D.IV of Siemens-Schuckert-Werke (SSW). The flight did not take place because the wings were too soft.

history

The test aircraft was built in 1926 at the suggestion of Martin Schrenk on behalf of the DVL at Albatros in Berlin-Johannisthal . The high-altitude fighter aircraft Siemens-Schuckert D.IV served as the basis, a prototype of which survived the war. The resulting machine was given the new serial number 10114.

In static tests and roll tests, deficits in the strength of the wing were found and a flight test was therefore refrained from.

After the tests were stopped , the only model built ended up in the German Aviation Collection in Berlin , and after this exhibition was closed in 1941, dismantled because of the war in 1945. In 1963 it came to the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow. There are the fuselage with tail unit and chassis, the engine and propeller.

construction

The HI was a double-decker with a normal tail unit, two-wheeled sprung main landing gear and a grinding spur. The wing span of the D.IV was increased from 8.30 to 12.56 meters and supported by N-shaped struts, the guyed rudder and horizontal stabilizer modified. A special 3.68 meter long wooden propeller was built at the Heine company.
