Albatros L 72 c

The Albatros L 72 was a single-engine, double-decker transport aircraft made by the Berliner Albatros Flugzeugwerke in the 1920s. It was developed for Ullstein Verlag to transport newspapers between German cities. A single, revised sample was built for the Hamburg foreign newspaper . This machine was in operation in the North Sea Bathing Service.

construction

The L 72 was a single-engine biplane with a conventional configuration and wings of the same span. The metal wing had two box spars made of Dural, welded tubular steel ribs and a canvas covering. The identical upper and lower wings were connected to one another by N struts. In addition, the L 72 was the first German commercial aircraft to have slotted, retractable slats ( Lachmann flaps) and landing flaps coupled to them.

The hull consisted of a welded tubular steel frame, which was clad with sheet metal in the bow. The rest of the outer skin was stretched with canvas. The half-open pilot's cockpit was separated from the closed payload cabin . Both were accessible through separate side doors. As a cargo plane, the largest loading area for newspaper loads was 1.7 m². The discharge chute with a clear width of 40 × 56 cm was closed by a swiveling double seat. Another folding seat for 2 people was on the front wall.

The chassis had a continuous axle and had compression rubber suspension with oil damping. The tail wheel had a simple compression rubber suspension .
