Albert Bäuml (born June 5, 1855 in Toužim , † March 9, 1929 in Munich ; full name: Albert Karl Georg Bäuml ) was the owner, manager and innovator of the Nymphenburg porcelain factory for many years .

Life

Albert Bäuml was born in 1855 as the first of ten children of Ignaz and Rose Bäuml in Toužim (German Theusing). The Bäuml family had been tenants of the Meierhof estate from the estate of the Duke of Beaufort-Spontin for more than a hundred years . In the 1880s, Albert Bäuml's parents lived as private owners in Karlsbad .

Bäuml completed elementary school in Theusing, secondary school in Komotau and a commercial apprenticeship in Pilsen . In 1874 he took a job in a textile company in Augsburg . On September 9, 1884, he married Therese Obermayer, daughter of the former textile merchant and privateer Georg Obermayer and his wife Emilie from Passau . On March 11, 1886, Alfred Bäuml first settled in Munich and from April 23, 1888 in Nymphenburg . The marriage resulted in the sons Fritz (* December 22, 1887), Alfred (* May 24, 1892) and Kurt (* April 7, 1899).

In 1887, Bäuml successfully applied to the government for the management of the Royal Bavarian Porcelain Manufactory in Nymphenburg, which at that time was run down and threatened with closure. Albert Bäuml succeeded in reconnecting with the great tradition of the 18th century and resuming the production of the old porcelain mass and glaze. Through the involvement of numerous artists such as Joseph Wackerle , Adelbert Niemeyer and Theodor Kärner , as well as through continuous improvement of the technology (setting up underglaze painting ), he became a "new founder and innovator" of the Nymphenburg porcelain factory.

In 1955, Bäumlstrasse in Nymphenburg in district 9 of the Bavarian capital Munich was named after him.
