Albert Costa Balboa (born May 2, 1990 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish racing driver . He won the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup in 2009 . He competed in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2010 and 2011 . In 2012 he won the Eurocup Mégane Trophy .

Career

Costa began his motorsport career in karting in 2000 , where he was active until 2006. In 2007 he joined the Formula racing and went directly into the national class of the British Formula 3 Championship at. He started nine races for Räikkönen Robertson Racing and finished eleventh overall at the end of the season. In 2008 Costa was active for Epsilon Euskadi in two series: In the Western European Formula Renault he finished fifth overall with four podium finishes and in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup he finished eighth. 2009 Costa stayed in both racing series and won the championship titles of both series. While he won eight titles in the Western European Formula Renault, he won four races in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. In both series, Jean-Éric Vergne was his main competitor for the title.

In 2010 Costa started as a teammate of the Japanese Keisuke Kunimoto for Epsilon Euskadi in the Formula Renault 3.5 . Although he was denied a victory, with the help of regular point placements and three podiums he ended the season in fifth place overall and clearly distanced Kunimoto, who was 22nd. In 2011 Costa contested his second season in the Formula Renault 3.5. His team has since been taken over by EPIC Racing . After finishing three races on the podium, he won his first race at the season finale in Barcelona . In the drivers' standings, he improved to fourth place at the end of the season.

After Costa failed to raise the budget for another season in formula racing in winter 2011/2012, he decided to switch to touring car racing. He started in 2012 in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy for the Oregon team , which had won the team classification the previous year. Costa won seven out of fourteen races and won the title duel against Bas Schothorst .
