Albert Edward Kelly
Albert Edward Kelly (born September 8, 1914 in London , † 1994 ) was a British composer and conductor .
Life
Albert Edward Kelly received his first musical training from his father, a member of the Grenadier Guards Band and theater musician. As early as 1928 he joined the Royal Dragoon Guards as a young musician (a so-called junior bandsman ) . During World War II , Kelly served with the 4th / 7th Royal Dragoon Guards of the British Army , participated in the Allied landing at Arromanches-les-Bains and was injured in July 1944. After the end of the war, he studied from 1946 first at the Royal Military School of Music , then at the Royal College of Music and at the Royal Academy of Music . Kelly became a military bandmaster and directed the military music of the Royal Sussex Regiment from 1951 to 1961 . He then moved to public administration and was a senior executive in the British Civil Service until 1979 .
Kelly had been married since 1942; he had two sons and a daughter.

Kelly wrote mainly marching music . His best-known pieces include the Arnhem March (Kelly's regiment suffered heavy losses during Operation Market Garden ) and the Arromanches March (named after the Arromanches-les-Bains near which Kelly landed during D-Day ).
