At the First World War he took from 1914 to 1918 as part Marineintendantursekretär. After the war he was co-founder and then director in November 1918, and from 1921 to 1922 press chief of the German Association of Officials . From 1919 to 1921 he was a secret government councilor and then lecturer in the Reich Ministry of the Interior.
In July 1922 he was one of the co-founders of the free trade union Allgemeine Deutsche Beamtenbundes , of which he was federal chairman from July 1922 to 1933. In February 1929 he also took over the post of editor at the federal organ of the ADB. Through his function, he held various other supervisory board positions, especially in institutions closely related to the General German Association of Officials.
These included the Beamtenbausparkasse, Heimstättengesellschaft der Deutschen Beamtenschaft mbH (BBS) in Berlin, founded in 1928 , of which he was part of the management together with Ernst Remmers and Max Wagner from 1928 to 1933. The soil reformer Johannes Lubahn , who was a close friend of Adolf Damaschke, was chaired . After the " Gleichschaltung " of the BBS in 1933, the Beamtenheimstättenwerk emerged as a building society for the public service, which gradually changed to the general financial services provider BHW after losing its non-profit status in 1976 .
In August 1928 he entered the Reichstag due to a correction of the election result.
