Albert Gallatin Egbert (born April 13, 1828 in Sandy Lake , Mercer County , Pennsylvania , †  March 28, 1896 in Franklin , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Albert Egbert attended the public schools of his home country and then the Austinburg Academy in Ohio . After a subsequent medical degree at the Western Reserve University in Cleveland and his license as a doctor in 1856, he began to work in Clintonville in this profession. He later moved his home and practice to Cherrytree . In 1861 he quit his job to work in the oil industry and agriculture. During the civil war , however, he worked again as a volunteer doctor. After the war he gave up this activity.

Politically, Egbert became a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1874 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Lemuel Todd on March 4, 1875 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1876, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1877 . During this time he was chairman of the Committee on Mileage .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Albert Egbert worked again in the oil industry and in agriculture. He died on March 28, 1896 in Franklin, where he was also buried.
