Lewis Findlay Watson

Lewis Findlay Watson (born April 14, 1819 in Crawford County , Pennsylvania , †  August 25, 1890 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1890 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives three times .

Career

Lewis Watson attended public schools in his home country. From 1832 he worked in Titusville in trade. In 1835 he moved to Warren , where he also worked in the trade until 1837. Then he was employed as a clerk by the local city administration in 1838 . He then studied law at Warren Academy in 1839 and 1840 ; however, it is not known whether he worked as a lawyer. Until 1860 he was active again in the trade and from 1860 to 1975 he worked in the wood industry and in the petroleum business. He also worked in the railway industry. In 1861 he founded the Conewango Valley Railroad Co. , whose first president he became. In 1870 he also became President of Warren Savings Bank . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1876 Watson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 27th  constituency of Pennsylvania, where he succeeded the Democrat Albert Gallatin Egbert on March 4, 1877 . Until March 3, 1879 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . In the elections of 1880 Watson was re-elected to Congress in the 27th district of his state, where he replaced James H. Osmer on March 4, 1881 , who had succeeded him two years earlier. Until March 3, 1883, he could only spend one term in the US House of Representatives. In the elections of 1888 Watson was elected to Congress for the last time, where he succeeded William Lawrence Scott on March 4, 1889 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on August 25, 1890. He was buried in Warren.
