Samuel Myron Brainerd

Samuel Myron Brainerd (born November 13, 1842 in Albion , Erie County , Pennsylvania , †  November 21, 1898 in Erie , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Brainerd attended the public schools of his home country and then the Edinboro Normal School . After studying law at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and being admitted to the bar in 1869, he began to work in this profession in North East . Between 1872 and 1875 he was a district attorney in Erie County. From 1874 he was based in the city of Erie, where he practiced as a lawyer. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1880, he was a Republican district officer in Erie County.

In the congressional election of 1882 , Brainerd was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Lewis Findlay Watson on March 4, 1883 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1884, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1885 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Samuel Brainerd returned to practice as a lawyer. He died on November 21, 1898 in Erie, where he was also buried.
