Albert Gern
Albert Leopold Gern (born November 12, 1789 in Mannheim , † February 25, 1869 in Berlin ) was a German theater actor.
Life
Albert Gern was the son of the singer (bass) and actor Johann Georg Gern and his wife Amalie Boden. Gern completed the last years of his school days at the French grammar school in Berlin. At the request of his parents, he then completed an apprenticeship as a surveyor .
At the same time, Gern took private lessons from the actor August Iffland and switched to the theater immediately after completing his training. In 1807 Gern made his debut in the role of customs inspector in a play by August Kotzebue at the Royal National Theater in Berlin .
In 1836 Gern married Adolphine Pauline Gleich in Berlin.
Glad distinguished himself as a finely and sharply marked actor of charged characters, but did the best in comical roles, which he played with a rare originality, freshness and truthfulness. He first introduced Berlin local types on the then only available courtyard stage and created an original, highly comical figure in Ernst Raupach's “Schleichhändlern” as Bader Schelle, who returned in the “Zeitgeist”, “Schelle im Monde” etc.
For almost 60 years, the "young" Gern was unshaken in the favor of Berliners, until he retired in 1865.
Albert Gern died in Berlin in 1869 at the age of 79. He was buried in Cemetery III of the Jerusalem and New Churches in front of the Hallesches Tor . The grave has not been preserved.
