Albert Marden
Albert Marden (born November 18, 1934 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is an American mathematician who deals with function theory and hyperbolic geometry .
Marden received his doctorate in 1962 under Lars Ahlfors at Harvard University ( An extremal length problem and the bilinear relation on open Riemann surfaces ). He has been a professor at the University of Minnesota since the 1970s , where he has now retired. In 1969/70 and 1978 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS).
He deals with Riemann surfaces and their Teichmüller spaces , hyperbolic geometry of surfaces and 3-manifolds , Fuchs and Klein groups, complex dynamics and low-dimensional geometric analysis.
He made a tameness conjecture for hyperbolic 3-manifolds, established by him in 1974 and proven around 2004 by Ian Agol , Danny Calegari and David Gabai .
In 1962 he gave a lecture at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Stockholm ( A sufficient condition for the bilinear relation on open Riemann surfaces ). He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
