Albert Merz

Albert Merz (born June 28, 1942 in Unterägeri ) is a Swiss painter and draftsman . He created murals , graphics , sculptures and installations . He lives and works in Berlin .

life and work

Merz studied from 1958 to 1962 at the teachers' college in Zug. In 1972 he moved to the School of Design (now the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences ) in Lucerne, where he was trained as a drawing teacher until 1975. In 1980 Merz moved to Berlin, where he has lived since then, and studied at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1980 to 1984 .

Following the zeitgeist of the early 1980s, Merz turned to so-called wild painting , resulting in amorphous, expressive pictures. After 1985 he used signs and symbols in his paintings, "... stylized ciphers for people between nature and culture, between intellect and feeling, between birth and death." In his home canton of Zug, Merz is realizing a number of art in construction projects. In 1988 he designed the renovation and new building of the city ​​and cantonal library in Zug, and in 2009 Merz painted the outer facade of the new Ägerihalle in Unterägeri.
