Albert Natalis
Albert Natalis (born August 15, 1831 in Braunschweig ; † September 19, 1904 there ; full name: Albert Julius Maria Clemens Natalis ) was a German businessman and entrepreneur .
family
His father Friedrich Eduard August Natalis was the Duke of Braunschweigischer steward . His grandfather Carl came to Braunschweig in 1795 as a French emigrant from Verdun in the entourage of Duke Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand and had been running the Hotel de Prusse am Damm since 1799 . His sons, Hugo (1860–1924) and Friedrich (1864–1935), became electrical engineers. Albert Natalis last lived in a villa at Parkstrasse 8.
Entrepreneur
After working as a wholesale merchant in France , Italy and Russia for several years , he returned to Braunschweig in 1858, got married and joined the haberdashery wholesaler of his father-in-law Ferdinand Meyer.
Natalis began selling US sewing machines around 1860, but from 1864 he began to manufacture such machines himself in Braunschweig. To this end, in 1866 he founded the sewing machine wholesalers Albert Natalis & Co.
Grimme, Natalis & Co.
He managed to win Carl Grimme (1836–1883) as technical director. Together with him, Ferdinand Borchers and CA Merkel, he founded the limited partnership on shares Grimme, Natalis & Co in 1871 . (GNC), the later Brunsviga machine works . At first, sewing machines of all types and sizes continued to be produced, with the company having its own iron foundry. It was set up to be independent from suppliers. It also produced piano frames for local piano makers . In addition, it was possible to produce iron art cast objects by means of a patent from works director Franz Trinks . In 1870/1872 Grimme, together with Isidor Nasch from Braunschweig, held another patent, this time for a device on sewing machines for producing overlock and buttonhole sewing using a single needle . In the 1890s, production was switched to calculating machines.
Association of German Engineers and Braunschweig Building Cooperative
In 1883 Albert Natalis was one of the founding members of the Braunschweig District Association of the Association of German Engineers (VDI), in 1887 he co-founded the Braunschweiger Building Cooperative (BBG), which still exists today, and was its chairman until 1901.
