Albert Rhomberg

Albert Rhomberg (actually: Josef Anton Albert Rhomberg ; born January 4, 1819 in Dornbirn ; † July 1, 1884 there ) was an Austrian entrepreneur and politician. From 1871 to 1872 he was a conservative member of the Austrian Chamber of Deputies of the Reichsrat , from 1872 to 1882 a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and, most recently, deputy governor in Vorarlberg.

Life

Rhomberg completed his schooling in Dornbirn and learned the French language in Geneva . He also learned the Italian language while working as a businessman in the company's branch in Verona . Like his brother-in-law Wilhelm Rhomberg , he was a partner in Herrburger & Rhomberg .

Rhomberg began his political career in 1850 as a member of the Dornbirn community committee, where he held this position until 1876. He acted as mayor of Dornbirn from 1857 to 1864 and was also the local school supervisor between 1849 and 1869. In 1871 Rhomberg was also sworn in as a member of the state parliament in Vorarlberg, where he belonged to the conservative parliamentary group and represented the constituency of the Dornbirn market. For the 7th session and the 4th legislative period, the Vorarlberg state parliament elected Rhomberg as a representative of the cities and markets of Vorarlberg as a member of the House of Representatives, where he was sworn in on December 27, 1871. After Rhomberg and his colleague Josef Anton Oelz had sanctioned the Emergency Election Act in 1872, they were severely criticized by party members, whereupon both resigned from their mandate in December 1872. In the replacement elections in the state parliament, however, the choice fell on them again. After the execution of direct Reichsrat elections had been ordered in 1873 with an imperial patent, Rhomberg ran for the mandate of the cities and markets of Bregenz, Feldkirch, Bludenz and Dornbirn and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Vorarlberg on March 21, 1873. While Rhomberg won the election in Dornbirn clearly and narrowly in Bludenz, he was clearly defeated by the opposing candidate Sebastian von Froschauer in Feldkirch, Bludenz and in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with Froschauer being elected member with 1079 of 2081 valid votes. Rhomberg was narrowly inferior with 1042 votes and left the House of Representatives for good. Rhomberg also resigned from the Vorarlberg state parliament in 1882, after having previously served as Vorarlberg's deputy governor from 1880 to 1882.

In addition to his political activities, Rhomberg was also involved as a member of the Catholic-Political People's Association, was a co-founder of the Catholic Association House in Dornbirn and, in 1859, co-founder of the Dornbirner Schützen-Kompagnie.
