Albert Schlutow

Albert Schlutow (born January 15, 1838 in Stettin , † September 18, 1909 in Heringsdorf ; full name Albert Heinrich Wilhelm Schlutow ) was a German industrialist , banker and politician . He was a co-owner of the Wm. Schlutow banking house in Stettin, a member of the supervisory board of several companies and a member of the Reichstag , later of the Prussian mansion .

Life

Albert Schlutow joined the banking house Wm. Schlutow in Stettin, founded by his father Wilhelm Schlutow (Swedish Consul General in Stettin 1841–1871) in the 1870s . After the death of his father in 1881 he became the main owner and devoted himself to more representative tasks to the outside world, in politics and on the supervisory boards of several companies. The internal management of the bank took over Rudolf Abel, who had already become a co-owner in 1876.

From 1874 to 1887 Schlutow was an unpaid city councilor in Stettin. In 1878 Schlutow was elected to the Reichstag for the National Liberal Party (NLP). In 1880 he separated from the National Liberals and, as an advocate of free trade, took part in the founding of the Liberal Association . In 1884 he withdrew from party politics.

Schlutow was chairman of the supervisory board of the Stettiner Maschinenbau Actien-Gesellschaft Vulcan and the Prussian National Insurance Company , as well as a member of the supervisory board of the United King and Laurahütte and the Prussian soil credit company . Schlutow was in contact with Kaiser Wilhelm II, in particular through his work on the board of the Vulcan .

Schlutow was awarded the title of Kommerzienrat in 1879 and the title of Secret Commerce Councilor in 1889 . In 1895 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class. In 1897 he was appointed a member of the Prussian mansion for life on the occasion of the launch of the express steamer Kaiser Wilhelm der Große built at Vulcan . In 1906 he was supported by the University of Greifswald Dr. jur. hc doctorate.

Schlutow was also one of the heads of the merchant class in Stettin from 1876, from 1885 deputy head director and from 1900 to 1905 head director.

Albert Schlutow died in Heringsdorf in 1909 and was buried in the Grabow cemetery in Stettin.
