The Albert Schweitzer was a long-distance train that connected Dortmund with Strasbourg . The train owes its name to the doctor and Nobel Prize winner Albert Schweitzer .
history
The Trans-Europ-Express Albert Schweitzer took over on May 27, 1979, the train path of underutilized between Heidelberg and Munich TEA Bacchus . Instead of going to Munich , this train went to Strasbourg under the new name TEE Albert Schweitzer . The train was the last newly created international TEE of the Deutsche Bundesbahn . With a departure time in Dortmund at 6:35 a.m. he took on a relief function for the InterCity Nymphenburg, which runs from Dortmund to Munich .
On the Dortmund – Kehl line , the train was hauled by the DB class 103 and for the last seven kilometers between Kehl and Strasbourg with a multi-system locomotive of the BB 20200 series of the SNCF . Until 1982 the train set consisted of two TEE compartment cars , one TEE open seating car and a dining car . From the 1982 summer timetable , the train only ran with three cars and was only served by a minibar .
Due to the complex operation with locomotive changes in Kehl, the operation was uneconomical and the TEE Albert Schweitzer was discontinued on May 29, 1983.
