Albert Thormann
Albert Thormann (born January 23, 1878 in Copenhagen , † January 21, 1952 in Bautzen ) was a German local politician and a victim of Stalinism .
Life
Thormann was born in Copenhagen to a German father and a Swedish mother.
From 1919 to 1926 he was the mayor and spa director in Baabe .
During his tenure, the plan drawn up on November 1, 1913 for the creation of the Neubaabe district was implemented. In 1925 the Baabe volunteer fire brigade was founded . In the same year the house of the community and spa administration in Strandstrasse 2 and the forest cemetery in Baabe were built. He also prepared the design of the beach road with a central promenade, which ultimately still shapes the appearance of the community today.
At the beginning of the 1930s Thormann was chairman of the Rügen Tourist Association.
From 1921 to 1929 he was a member of the district council of the Rügen district for the SPD . After the end of the Second World War , he initially belonged again to the SPD and, after the forced unification of the SPD and KPD in 1946, to the SED . Thormann turned against the Stalinist form of the party and tried in 1947/48 to win the members of the FDJ in Baabe for a socialist path based on the Yugoslav model. After a denunciation, he was arrested on March 7, 1948 by the Soviet secret service. A Soviet military tribunal in Greifswald sentenced him to 25 years in a labor camp for anti-Soviet propaganda. He was imprisoned in the SMT prison in Bautzen . On February 16, 1950, the prison was handed over to the German People's Police . He died in prison in 1952.
Aftermath
On January 20, 2003, he was rehabilitated by the Central Prosecutor of the Russian Federation . On October 3, 2008, the Baabe community unveiled a memorial stone in his honor.
