Albert Wildauer OSB (born September 28, 1841 in Fügen as Joachim Wildauer ; † April 18, 1915 ) was an Austrian Catholic clergyman and from 1875 until his death abbot of the Fiecht monastery .

Life

Joachim Wildauer made the Matura at the Academic Gymnasium in Innsbruck and studied law at the University of Innsbruck , where he in 1862 the Corps Rhaetia was. In 1863 he broke off his studies and entered the Benedictine monastery of Fiecht under the religious name Albert . He was ordained a priest in Salzburg Cathedral in 1866. In 1875, at the age of 34, he was  elected abbot to succeed Pirmin Pockstaller .

Wildauer turns the monastery into a center of spiritual, scientific and economic activity. He made particular contributions to the merger of the Austrian Benedictine monasteries and the monastery school. But he was also an important promoter of economy and tourism. He achieved that the ownership right on Achensee , which had existed since the 12th century but was repeatedly claimed by the sovereigns, was fully recognized by Emperor Franz Joseph I and had hotels built on its banks. In 1887 he bought steam ships and in 1912 a motor ship for the lake. In 1897 he had a small power station built in Fiecht, which was followed by two more in St. Georgenberg and Pertisau in 1898 . As a member of the Tyrolean Parliament, Wildauer was also politically active. He died in 1915 and was buried in the Fiechter monastery cemetery. Josef Hagmann was elected to succeed him as abbot .

Awards

Wildauer has received numerous awards for his work. He received the Inful and received the papal order Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice . He was also Commander of the Franz Joseph Order with a star.
