Albin Hänseroth

Albin Hänseroth (born February 24, 1939 in Mönchengladbach ; † September 9, 2004 in Cologne ) was a German economist and media scientist. From 1995 to 1999 he was director of the Hamburg State Opera and from 1999 to 2004 director of the Cologne Philharmonic .

Albin Hänseroth came from a Rhenish merchant family. He completed his studies in social and economic sciences at Cologne University with a degree in economics and was awarded a doctorate in 1978 with his dissertation on empirical theater research in Cologne. rer. pole. PhD.

From 1978, Hänseroth was Professor of Sociology and Pedagogy of Mass Media at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences and also worked as a music critic for German and foreign daily newspapers and specialist magazines.

From 1988 he was artistic advisor and head of production at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona , where he was appointed artistic director in 1990. From 1995 to 1999, Hänseroth was director of the Hamburg State Opera as the successor to Peter Ruzicka, and from 1999 until his death in 2004, he was director of the Cologne Philharmonic as successor to Franz Xaver Ohnesorg .

Albin Hänseroth died unexpectedly after suffering from cancer, the funeral service took place on September 16, 2004 in the Cologne Philharmonic ; the funeral speech was held by the then mayor of Cologne, Fritz Schramma . His grave is located in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (Hall 20 (E) No. 43).
