The Evangelical Church District Altenkirchen is one of the 37 church districts of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . The seat of the superintendent of the parish is the district town of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) .

history

The church district was founded in 1817 after the area of ​​the former county of Sayn-Altenkirchen fell to Prussia in 1815 through the Congress of Vienna and became the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in 1816 . Synod Altenkirchen was also a common name in the 19th century .

The church district of Altenkirchen was renamed the Evangelical Church District of Altenkirchen on December 1, 2009 .

The area of ​​the church district is largely identical to the boundaries of today's Rhineland-Palatinate district of Altenkirchen. Exceptions are the political communities Horhausen and Willroth . They belong to the Evangelical Church Community of Honnefeld in the church district of Wied . The political community Kircheib belongs to the Evangelical parish of Asbach -Kircheib in the parish of An Sieg und Rhein , the political municipality of Berod to the Evangelical parish Wahlrod in the Evangelical Deanery Westerwald of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau and the political community of Mudersbach to the Evangelical parish Niederschelden in the parish of Siegen Evangelical Church of Westphalia . The Struthütten part of the Evangelical Church Community of Herdorf- Strutthütten is located in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The church district comprises 15 parishes, in which 37,300 parishioners lived on January 1, 2019.

There are 20 parish and eleven functional pastors in the church district. The Evangelical Church District Altenkirchen is responsible for the diaconal work of the Evangelical Church District Altenkirchen. The Diakonisches Werk performs the tasks of an association of independent welfare for the church district.
