Albin Hugo Kutschbach (born March 24, 1853 in Leipzig ; † November 16, 1936 there ) was a writer, print shop owner, diplomat and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Kutschbach was born the son of Johann Gottfried Kutschbach (1811–1875) and his wife Emilie Alwine (1823–1862). He attended the first citizen school, the secondary school of the first order and the commercial school in Leipzig and later also studied economics here . He first entered his father's business, but sold it after his father's death and made long trips.

In the Balkans he took part in various military undertakings, including the occupation campaign in Bosnia in 1878, where he became a brigadier general .

Back in Germany, Kutschbach was the editor of various newspapers and publisher of the Allgemeine Deutsche Exportblatt and the Chemnitzer Zeitung, as well as the owner of a book printer in Chemnitz . He was also the author of historical and political works, u. a. published in 1929 The Fire of Europe and 1936 Under the Sun of the Bosporus , about which it says in the introduction: "The novel snatches the old Constantinople from oblivion, and it can claim to be historically not without value."

From 1881 to 1884 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency Kingdom of Saxony 20 ( Marienberg - Zschopau ) in the parliamentary group of the Liberal Association .

He then worked as the private secretary of the Romanian king and on behalf of the Foreign Office as a diplomat in the Balkans. Through this experience, he was generally regarded as a Balkan expert and campaigned for better economic relations between Germany and the Balkans.

Kutschbach was also a member of the Freemason Lodge Psyche in Opole .

In his work A City Tour - Memories of an Old Leipziger , he describes old Leipzig, its inhabitants and life in the city in great detail. In his honor, the Kutschbachweg in Leipzig-Lindenau was named after him in 1937.
