Life

Count Albrecht Günther von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt

Albrecht was born on August 8, 1582 as the son of Albrecht VII von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and his wife Juliane. His brothers were Karl Günther and Ludwig Günther I. The count was sent to the University of Jena in 1598 together with his brother Ludwig Günther . In 1601 an educational trip followed with studies to Strasbourg . Paris followed as a travel destination in 1602 . The tour group returned to Rudolstadt in 1604.

In 1605, his father, Count Albrecht VII, died. All three sons were entitled to the government. It was decided that Karl Günther, as the eldest brother, would run government for six years. Albrecht Günther went back to Paris and lived there from 1606 to 1612. The expenses for the Count's lifestyle in Paris were considerable. Then in 1612 the county was divided into three parts. Albrecht Günther received the Ilm part, Karl Günther the Rudolstädter part and Ludwig Günther the Franconian part. Albrecht Günther now had Stadtilm as his residence . A palace was to be built there. The brothers worked together in certain areas such as government, debt servicing, and caring for sisters. In 1624 the regency in the county of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt was reorganized, and there was a change of ownership. Albrecht Günther received Frankenhausen, Karl Günther Rudolstadt and Ludwig Günther Stadtilm. The relationship between the brothers was strained because of the division of property. On September 24, 1630, Karl Günther died childless. Albrecht Günther received Rudolstadt after negotiations.

The count died on January 20, 1634 while traveling in Erfurt . The surviving brother Ludwig Günther ruled until 1646.
