Karl Günther Count von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (born November 6, 1576 , † September 24, 1630 in Kranichfeld ) was Count von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt , Count von Hohnstein, Lord of Rudolstadt, Leutenberg, Blankenburg, Sondershausen and Arnstadt and belonged to the House of Schwarzburg .

Life

Karl Günther was the eldest son of Count Albrecht VII von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and his wife Juliane, née Countess von Nassau-Dillenburg . Ludwig Günther I. and Albrecht Günther were his brothers. After his first education by private tutors, Karl Günther enrolled at the University of Jena in 1593 at the age of 17 . He stayed there until 1596 and switched to the University of Leipzig in the summer semester of 1597 . In 1598 he went to the Academy in Strasbourg and probably stayed there until 1600. His teacher Melchior Junius praised Karl Günther in his Orationes as an extraordinarily hardworking student.

After the death of his father in 1605, Karl Günther succeeded him for six years with the consent of his brothers. In 1612 there was a turning point in the county. Karl Günther was awarded when the Rudolstadt part was divided. Albrecht Günther received the Ilmian part, Ludwig Günther I received the Franconian part. In 1624 Albrecht Günther and Ludwig Günther exchanged their parts in an Erfurt comparison. In 1609, Karl Günther arranged for a school to be built in Rudolstadt , which was inaugurated in 1611. On June 13, 1613, Karl Günther married Anna Sophia , a daughter of Prince Joachim Ernst von Anhalt . Together with his wife he became a great sponsor of Wolfgang Ratke .

In 1619, probably on September 5th, Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen accepted Karl Günther into the Fruit Bringing Society . He gave it the company name of the multiplier and the motto a hundredfold . As an emblem, Turkish grain with different opened ears of wheat ( Zea mays L. ) was assigned to him. Karl Günther's entry can be found in the Köthen company register under no.23.

Karl Günther died on September 24, 1630 at the age of 54 without any descendants. His brother Ludwig Günther became heir .
