Albrecht Constantin Türrschmiedt , also written Türrschmidt (born May 16, 1821 in Berlin ; † October 14, 1871 there ), was a German ceramist and master builder. He became known through the design of the concrete houses in Berlin's Victoria City , one of the first uses of concrete for building houses.

Türrschmiedt comes from a family of musicians. His father, Carl Nikolaus Türrschmiedt (or Türrschmidt) (1776–1862) was a horn player and music teacher, his mother, Auguste , b. Braun, (1800–1866) was a concert singer and singing teacher.

Türrschmiedt studied natural sciences and then specialized in pottery and brick making. He worked in a brick factory in Hermsdorf near Berlin and for several years managed the brick factory on the estate of his brother-in-law Gustav Robert-Tornow on his estate in Ruhnow in Western Pomerania. At times he ran a brick factory in Neustadt-Eberswalde ; however, this company failed after a while. He moved to Berlin and worked there as a scholar. Most recently he lived at Pariser Platz Türrschmiedt, published a number of articles and brochures on brick and pottery manufacturing.

In 1865 he founded the association for the manufacture of bricks, lime and cement together with Friedrich Eduard Hoffmann and was editor of the association's newspaper. Later he founded - also together with Hoffmann - the Deutsche Töpfer- und Ziegler-Zeitung , which he directed until his death. Around 1870 he dealt intensively with the use of cement. In particular, he examined experiences with building houses from "cement concrete" (concrete) in England. In the 1870s, based on the preparatory work by Türrschmiedt, the Berliner Cementbau-AG built the first concrete houses in Germany in the Berlin Victoriastadt .

Modern sources say that Türrschmiedt worked directly as an engineer and site manager for the Berliner Cementbau AG. However, Türrschmiedt suddenly died of tonsillitis on October 14, 1871, whereas the Berliner Cementbau-AG was not founded until 1872. Even contemporary obituaries for Türrschmiedt have nothing to report about a construction manager activity.

Türrschmiedt remained unmarried; his closest family contact was his sister's family. His nephew was the librarian and translator Walter Robert-Tornow .

The Türrschmidtstraße in Berlin Victoria city is named after Türrschmiedt since 1,873th

Musical creation

As the son of a family of musicians, Türrschmiedt received music lessons at an early age, first from his father and later from Neugebauer. However, he did not make music his main occupation, but remained, according to the name at that time, " dilettante " who only played music out of hobby. He published two collections of songs, which appeared in 1858 and 1859. Türrschmiedt was a member of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin until his death .
